The Series, Ivy's Idioms, was named after my dog Ivy (isn't she cute as a button) and has the goal of making idioms easy and fun to learn. There will be books that focus on sports based idioms, cats and dogs, regional, international and even adult based idioms. They will concentrate on the most common idioms that we all use everyday but there will also be some that maybe you haven't heard before.
Putting Lipstick on a Pig is the first in the Ivy's Idioms series of books that explore and explain common sayings otherwise known as idioms. During my research I spoke with many educators who teach English to non-native English speakers and they explained how challenging idioms can be to learn. My hope for this series is to help all people have fun learning idioms whether you're a lifelong speaker of the language or just learning.
I'm very fortunate to have been born and lived in the great states of Minnesota and Wisconsin which have large agricultural communities and where I first heard many of the idioms contained in this book. I'm equally fortunate to have moved to that other great state, Texas, 10 years ago which has exposed me to idioms I've never heard and are uniquely regional.
